BAUX Flight Mode

2020

My Master thesis was in collaboration with BAUX and Form Us With Love. The purpose of the thesis was to find new sustainable acoustic materials and develop concepts of sound absorbing products.

The thesis incorporated a wide market research in materials and the development of a scoring system, rating materials based on sustainability and scalability.

Promising materials were acoustically tested and concepts of sound absorbing products were created – focusing on utilizing the strengths of the materials in contrast to developing from solely the function.

Four questions about acoustic products

User Behaviour

How can we change the way users interact with acoustic products?

Business Model

How can we alter the business model regarding acoustic products?

Product Properties

How can we change the way acoustic products are applied?

Commercial

How can we reinvent something that is widely commercially available?

The concept BAUX Flight Mode is a sound absorber build on a modular base that allows the user to interact and change the soundscape. The design enables full recycling at the end of its lifecycle by being made out of sustainable mono-materials that easily separates. It is recommended to only be leased, allowing BAUX to take full responsibility of the product and creating a closed material loop.
